Washington DC Today, July 31, 2007

Me and my Uncle went to DC this morning via AMTRAK from Richmond. We left on the 6am train and arrived in DC around 8.20am at Union Station and proceeded to walk to the US Capitol. Then we walked all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial. We started our way back to visit some of the Smithsonian Museums and we walked about 6-8 miles! I am very tired, but it was really fun to get to take my Uncle somewhere that he has not been.

Here is the link to all the pics i took with my LG VX8600 1.3 mega pixel Cam Phone.

Update and tomorrow...

We celebrated my Grandfather’s 76th birthday today!! I fried a Turkey and my wife made dressing with chicken. We had a cake and a card for him. His real b-day was on Saturday but they were on the road, so we did it today. Tomorrow, I am taking my Uncle Terry to DC for the day. We are taking the Amtrak train from Richmond to DC. We will not have to worry with traffic in the Northern Neck of Virginia as it can be horrible sometimes and also parking in DC can be a bummer. I will send a few pics via my phone during the day as well.

Have a good evening or morning depending on where you are located.

My Family...

Well today at around 3.30pm my family arrived from Texas. They made the 1200+ mile drive in 2 days, starting out yesterday morning in Jasper Texas and staying last night 70 miles west of Atlanta Georgia. The got up early this morning to finish the drive to our house in Midlothian Virginia. I am really glad to see them as my grandfather and uncle has never seen our house here in Virginia.

I am leaving work tonight at 1.15am so I do not have to sleep all day tomorrow and we will be able to do a few things tomorrow. I hated to have to come to work tonight, but duty calls. I also took off Wednesday night to be able to spend more time with them. I am going to take my Uncle Terry to Washington DC on Tuesday as he has never been there, so that will be fun and will also be some great memories.

Mack's New Computer

Thanks to Mac Hall for letting me publish this on my blog.

The Beast 666 Computer

In the 1970s there were many whispered rumors about The Beast 666 Computer that Satan was supposedly constructing in Belgium. Our social security numbers were the Mark of the Beast (I used to date her, by the way), and these would be fed into the 666 Computer and then fluoridated or something, and then Satan would rule the world, mwahahahahahahahahaaaaaaa!

The founders of this rumor went on to invent Y2K, and urged us all to buy drums of water and sacks of dried peas because when the End Times come and Captain Kirk beams us up to his space ship as the planet explodes we'll all need drums of water and sacks of dried peas.

We now know that the whole bit about Satan and his magic laptop was always quite impossible, since within minutes of its completion the computer would have whimsically shut down and refused to do anything but light up.

Satan would have had to call out a Volkswagen-driving 30-something with thick glasses at $60 an hour to sneer at Satan's outdated hard-drive ("this is sooooooooo last week") and his dial-up connection.

Satan would also have learned that all the dossiers saved on his previous (hardly old) computer in Micro-Blop X-PMS are not compatible with the newer-than-new Micro-Snort Z-Xtreem bundled into his new computer, and would have to sacrifice his first-born, Vladimir Putin, to the computer gods to pay for a patch, which would take three hours to work through each time he wanted to look at, say, his MeMeMeSpace downloads.

Imagine, if you will, buying a new car, and after driving it ten minutes it breaks down, and must be rebuilt at great expense.

Imagine, if you will, buying a new book shelf, and as you transfer those favorite volumes from the old shelf to the new shelf your books simply disappear.

Imagine, if you will, transferring file folders from an old cabinet to a new, and they simply won't fit into either file cabinet.

Imagine, if you will, writing a letter to a friend, and the old pen won't work and the new pen comes with a lengthy instruction manual and then won't work anyway.

Imagine, if you will, writing out your week's work and meeting schedule in your daily planner, and then at a critical moment all your writing simply evaporates.

Imagine, if you will, mailing a letter to a friend, and finding that the postal service no longer accepts envelopes but instead requires a complex new packaging and you must spend a day at a seminar learning this new method.

Yes, I bought a new computer this week.

Satan's in the computer business, all right.

Fitness and Health..

As many know, I am on a health kick. I love to ride my Mountain Bike on the trails with and friends. So the other evening, my wife tells me that we/she joined the American Family Fitness Gym here in Richmond. It is a local chain, not to be confused with 24 Hour Fitness in Texas or elsewhere. So we went to the gym on Tuesday evening and looked over the facilities. They are very nice. We go to the Swift Creek facility. They have racket ball, basket ball, free weights, swimming, and an assortment of other activities.

I like to think that I am in good shape, so I decided to give the stationary bike a try and I did a cardio program. I entered my age and time that I wanted to ride. I entered 30 minutes and the bike stated I needed to get my hear rate up to 147BPM. Ok, I started the ride and after about 5 minutes, I hit the target. I kept up the pace and was riding at about a 2.5 minuet mile. I got over 11 miles in 30 minutes. I was impressed if I do say so myself. I also did that the next night as well.

I also started lifting weights for my lower back to strengthen it up. I talked to a trainer and he suggested that I do “dead lifts” and I said ok. I do 4 sets of 10 reps at 100lbs and them 2-3 sets of 10 at 110lbs. My lower back was very soar. I need to get back and do some more as I am no longer soar and ready to continue with the training.

My ultimate goal is to try to do the ride in Houston Texas that goes to Austin. It is called The BP MS 150. I am going to continue to train and stay in shape to be able to make this happen!! I will let you all in on more details as they happen.

What is your opinion?

Bob Woodward...

I like to read at least 3-4 books a year. I have read all of Dan Brown's books, Holy Blood Holy Grail, Rule by Secrecy, just to name a few.

I am reading the series of by Bob Woodward and I have started with "Bush At War" and I will go next to "Plan Of Attack: and finally to "State Of Denial" I hope to do this during the next 6-9 months. I love the whole "conspiracy theory" stance and also real world current events type of reading.

If you like the current event type of reading, I strongly suggest a book by Robert Baer called See No Evil. It tells about the decline of the CIA over the last 20+ years. It is a very good read. Also watch the movie called Syriana as it was based on the book.

Happy Readings...

11 things you may not know about "Star Wars"

I have not read this book. I have a PDF file that is called The_Secret_History_of_Star_Wars. I have read some of it, but it is over 400+ pages and i have not had the time. At the moment i am reading a book by Bob Woodward - Bush At War.

I will tell more about it as i get more into the book. But, back to the title. I found this on a blog that i was reading and i wanted to pass this along to you all.

Thanks to Jacoblog for this little rundown on the book.

1. In between the second and third drafts, Luke was changed to be a girl. (p. 40)

2. Because of its size and proximity to the Tunisia-Libya border, the Sandcrawler set was searched by the Libyan army to make sure it wasn't a secret Tunisian military weapon. (p. 157)

3. The R2D2 robot went out of control and wandered into the set of Franco Zeffirelli's "Jesus of Nazareth," which was also filming in the Tunisian desert. (p. 159)

4. Alec Guinness got mad and almost quit when, midway through production, George Lucas decided that Obi-Wan Kenobi would die. (p. 166)

5. During the entire production, only two people were fired and no one quit. (p. 255)

6. Carrie Fisher stood on a turntable to film the R2D2 hologram message. (p. 257)

7. After playing the part of C3P0 for the entire production, Anthony Daniels was almost replaced during voice-over recordings by someone who could make the character sound more like an American used-car salesman. (p. 265)

8. The trench that the rebels fly through isn't the one that runs around the equator of the Death Star. It's one of 18 vertical trenches that start halfway up from the equator and run toward the north pole. (p. 280)

9. The motion picture review board rated "Star Wars" a G, until the studio went back and demanded a PG rating. Also, some of the raters fell asleep during the screening. (p. 289)

10. Lucas and Steven Spielberg swapped profit points on their two movies, "Star Wars" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," each believing the other's would do better. (p. 298)

11. Twentieth Century Fox's stock jumped 450% immediately after the movie came out. (p. 301)

Homeland Security Funds LED Light Saber...

By Ryan Singel

The Department of Homeland Security is funding the creation an LED flashlight that uses powerful flashes of light to temporarily blind, disorient and incapacitate people. Homeland Security's Science and Technology arm hopes government agents can use the "light saber" to arrest people on planes and at the borders without using traditional weapons.

The LED Incapacitator uses a range-finder to measure the distance to a target's eyes and then unleashes continually changing, multi-color light pulses that both blind and disorient the person. Intelligent Optical Systems, a small company in Torrance, CA, is developing the weapon with money from Homeland Security's Science and Technology division, which thinks its possible to have the weapon deployed to cops, National Guard troops and border agents by 2010.

The company's president Bob Lieberman says the tool would be perfect for confronting border jumpers."You don't want to hurt or kill them, just take them into custody," Lieberman was quoted as saying by a DHS newsletter. "With this, they don't need to know English to comply."

The tool could be scaled up to make a light bazooka that could subdue a crowd, but the company is focusing on miniaturizing the device to make it resemble a traditional D-cell Maglite. Right now the prototype is a non-svelte 15 inches by 4 inches wide.

But first the company's chief scientist Vladimir Rubtsov wants to discover more powerful patterns and colors, which he'll get this fall with tests on volunteers at Penn State University's Institute for Nonlethal Defense Technology.
"There's one wavelength that gets everybody," Lieberman said, according to the newsletter. "Vlad calls it the evil color."

THREAT LEVEL can only wonder how long will it be until war protesters and Rio Grande swimmers start wearing reflective clothing?

I wonder if Lucas said that they could use the term Light Saber? Can someone say copyright?

Web Trend Map 2007

This is the Legend of the map.

This is the top left corner of Web Trend Map 2007 Version 2. It's based on the Japanese subway system. The creators are Information Architects, a Japan-based design agency.

They took the top 200 tech (definitely tech) sites and placed them along subway lines. The lines are used to group together similar services. For example along the blue Community line there's Facebook, Xing (think European Linkedin), Vox and LinkedIn. Each one also has a weather forecast and an incremental web number. The more suns and less clouds represent a positive prediction about a site's future.

I had to smile at the fun the Information Architects had. Here is some of the Tokyo symbolism that they put into the map:

1.Google has moved from Shibuya, a humming place for young people, to Shinjuku, a suspicious, messy, Yakuza-controlled, but still a pretty cool place to hang out (Golden Gaya).
2.Youtube has conquered Shibuya.
3.Microsoft has moved to Ikebukuro, if you know what I mean.
4.Yahoo is in Ueno, a nice place but nothing going on there.

This link is a very sweet site with hyperlinks on the site.

Go to it and try some.

Thanks to iA for this material.

Little to Big comparison...

Big = Radar, is a Belgian draught horse with his own big claim to fame - as the Worlds Tallest Living Horse. Radar, at 6ft 71/2in from hoof to shoulder, is from Mount Pleasant, Texas.
At 2,400lb, he has a giant appetite to match, putting away 20 gallons of water a day and 18lb of grain.

Little = 17 inches, the miniature brown mare known as Thumbelina takes pride in the lofty title of the World's Smallest Living Horse. Thumbelina, who weighs 4st 9lb, was born on a farm in St Louis, Missouri. She eats two cups of grain and a handful of hay each day.

What is your opinion?

This Week..

It has been a boring week. We joined a gym and I have ridden 22 miles on the stationary bikes. I was doing the cardio workout program on the bike. I would ride for 30 minutes and try to get 11 miles. That meant less than a 2.5 minute mile and I would get my heart rate to 147 bpm.  That was the target. I was able to achieve that.  I am also working out for my back to strengthen it up by doing dead lifts.  I do 4 sets of 10 at 100 lbs and then 2 sets of 10 at 110 lbs.  So I am sore today. I took the night off, but I think that I am going in the morning before I have to sleep to get ready for work for the weekend.  Also, my Grandparents and Uncle are coming out here!  They start driving on Saturday and will get here on Sunday. I can’t wait to see them!! Well, have a good evening…

Celebrities??? Role Models???

A real world commentary...

What is it with our fascination with these people? Why do we follow their lives? What power do they have over us? They do not have any on me! To me, they are just normal people, not to be idolized. Let us look at some of them. Most of them did not finish High School or even have a college degree. Therefore, to say that they are role models is not hitting the mark for our children.

Wow, Mom, I want to be like Brittany Aguilera and make it big in the music business; a little girl might say at age 10 or 11 perhaps. What a dream it is, because that is just it, a dream. Most kids grow up to become productive members of society and have a family, job, and home just like their parents do, not some nut job that shows her private parts or strips down to bra and panties to go swimming swarmed by the media.

It scares me to think that my daughter once wanted to be like one of them. With role models like Hilton, Spears, Lohan, just to name a few; who needs nightmares? These women and I use the term loosely, could be a very good force in young girls futures by doing things the right way, but instead, they choose to be sluts and addicts and with the media coverage, every little girl gets to see just how the rich and powerful act; with no regard for actions and how it effects others. Mindless debauchery with drug filled sex oriented nights on tape no less. We have all had times where we acted not so well, but we grew up and got over it. I for one feel they they will never.

Therefore, I challenge you as parents and families to not let your children idolize these people. It is good to have dreams and if one so chooses, to be an actor or singer, but get an education because the chances of making it big are not very good. We are so consumed with these famous people that we use this as medicine for the lives that we lead. Most are so dumbded down by the media that they live for the next big star to fall or get in a fight or make a surprise visit to the big Hollywood hot spot. It is time to wake up and view these people for what they are, just normal people, well at least most of them.

Wake up people, live your own life, and do not worry what the Johnsons are doing across the street. Most of the actors and actresses live in a dream world that they created with their money, not in reality that you or I live in. I for one cannot afford to go into court with a high priced attorney and get out of jail free. It just pisses me off to no ends… I guess that what they say is true. We follow these people to not have to deal with our own lives. Celebrity gossip is the opiate for the masses.

What is your opinion?

How Stupid Can You Be?? Dumbass Award!!!

HOW STUPID CAN U BE??

I mean really...

Arrested again on Drug and Alcohol possession just 2 weeks after being let out of rehab.

She had everything going for her and much like many of her peers, she is going into the shitter very quick!!

This is not stuff that i generally get into, but this deserves a post!!

The Associated Press
SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- The troubled saga of Lindsay Lohan took another dangerous turn early Tuesday when police booked her for drunken driving and cocaine possession after a frightened woman dialed 911 to report being chased by Lohan's SUV. Less than two weeks out of rehab, with another drunk driving case pending, Lohan had a blood-alcohol level of between .12 and .13 percent when police found her about 1:30 a.m., Sgt. Shane Talbot said.

Is she trying to be another Anna Nicole Smith? Does she want to spend the next 3-5 years in jail? I am sure that she will get another slap on the wrist because of her money, but she needs a good Kick In The ASS if you ask me!! She might make it into jail and that would be a good slap in the face and a reality check. Hilton had to go and Lohan does not have near the amount of money that she does. But with a father like she has and a hard partying mother, what do you expect?? They get too much money and fame at an early age without the maturity or guidance to have access to it...

What a good Roll Model for young girls that want to be "just like her."

As times passes like it always does; people move away from their town. I live in Virginia and Charles "Chuck" now lives in Athens Georgia.

This is his current story:

I started in 1996 training brazilian jiu jitsu and have since traveled all over the United States and trained / taught at several academies. I have trained with several UFC, WEC, Pride, and various small organization NHB fighters. I train under Gracie Barra which is led by Carlinhos Gracie, the son of Carlos Gracie. Gracie Barra is one of the most successful organizations in the world and has many champions.

I teach BJJ and NHB in Carrollton, GA. and also train at Gracie Barra Holly Springs, and Gracie Barra Douglasville. At this time I am training with NHB fighter Blake Bowman whom is a up and coming fighter, together we run Tudo Bem BJJ, an affiliate of GracieBarra North Shore. Rear WIndow Problems

The right side 1/3 rear window was broken out. I went to A Auto body to have it replaced, thinking that just the little window could be fixed. Boy was i wrong!

I found that the window is called Encapsulated Glass. Meaning that the whole window has to be replaced. I went to several other glass companies to see if the little window could be replaced and it could not. I had to file with my insurance as the price for OEM or Aftermarket Glass was very expensive. Therefore, i had to file.

I went with A- Auto body as they did a good job for em before. I got all the paperwork set up and placed my truck in the shop. I received a call from the owner saying that Safelite who handles all the glass claims for Nationwide would not allow an OEM piece of glass to be used and that i had to use an aftermarket one. The owner told me that they have had several aftermarket back glass windows not fit correctly. I did not want a leaky truck.

There was my dilemma. I went with A Auto body as the are a "Blue Ribbon" partner with Nationwide Insurance, or a preferred shop. I had to switch to another shop that was not in the "Blue Ribbon" network that would and could use OEM parts in the truck as opposed to a "partner" that was bound by the stipulations of the Safelite contract.

The moral of this story is to check with your insurance company and their partners as to what parts will/can be used to fix your vehicle. I have no fault with A Auto body as they allowed my truck to stay at their shop and let the other glass company come and fix the back window. Always check to see what is allowed with your insurance.

Forest Hill Park Mountain Bike Trail

"Description: Short small network of trails through a formerly fabulous (100 years ago or so), then dilapidated, now archeological find type of site. This park has been neglected for so long it has become beautiful again. Trails in this park were part of the Xterra race (June 2004). These trails are accessible from Reedy Creek (which is along the Buttermilk trail). Excellently difficult to climb hills, both single track and paved. An excellent whoop-dee-whoop on the East end (a bit hard to find, go over the creek near Forest Hill Avenue). Short trails, but worth exploring while riding the Buttermilk/Belle isle trails."

Eating beef ' is less green than driving?

According to the article that i read, "Producing 2.2lb (1 kilo) of beef generates as much greenhouse gas as driving a car non-stop for three hours, it was claimed yesterday."

They have got to be mental!!

"Taking into account all the processes involved, they said, four average sized steaks generated greenhouse gases with a warming potential equivalent to 80.25lb of carbon dioxide.

This also consumed 169 megajoules of energy.

That means that 2.2lb of beef (1 Kilo) is responsible for greenhouse gas emissions which have the same effect as the carbon dioxide released by an ordinary car travelling at 50 miles per hour for 155 miles, a journey lasting three hours or the amount of energy consumed would light a 100-watt bulb for 20 days.

Most of the greenhouse gas emissions are in the form of methane released from the animals' digestive systems, New Scientist magazine reported."

Who would have thought that cow farts were the main reason for the Greenhouse Effect??

Their answer is for us to stop eating beef!! What a good answer...NOT!! If we were to stop eating beef, what would happen to all the cows? Would we stop feeding them and let them die? This sounds like something PETA thought up and is trying to push their Vegan Liberal thinking on us. Did they ever stop to think about all the cows left out in the pasture so to speak? So, for the last 2500+ years, cow farts have been accumulating in the atmosphere and are going to cause a global climate shift? This is ridiculous to me, but hey, I love to eat a good steak!!

This image shows temperature of the Earth?s surface or clouds covering it for the month of April 2003. The scale ranges from -81 degrees Celsius (-114? Fahrenheit) in black/blue to 47? C (116? F) in red.

The Intertropical Convergence Zone, an equatorial region of persistent thunderstorms and high, cold clouds is depicted in yellow. Higher latitudes are increasingly obscured by clouds, though some features like the Great Lakes are apparent. Northernmost Europe and Eurasia are completely obscured by clouds, while Antarctica stands out cold and clear at the bottom of the image

Private Submarines?

I would have to say that this hits the top in the luxury travel category! This to me is the epitome of decadence. Yes you too can have a private submarine to travel the Earth's Oceans undetected by foreign powers.

The Phoenix 1000 pictured here is at the top of my list to purchase after I make my first billion dollars!! I can t wait. It has about 5000 sq/ft of living space in it and can be custom designed to meet your every need! With a $78 million price tag, all but the uber-rich can purchase one of these.

Bobby Brown fears he is terrorist target?

We all know how imprtant Bobby Brown is to the music industry. He had a hit or to way back in the late 1980s and early 1990s and then vanished off the face of the earth only to be married to Whitney Houston! What a pair they made!! So for him to make a comment like this is just par for the course.

Bobby Brown has confessed he is scared of the fact that he may be a target for al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden. The singer became aware of a threat, when Sudanese writer Kola Boof wrote about the leader's alleged infatuation with his estranged wife Whitney Houston.

Brown has taken measures to increase the security around him since he read the claims. On an Australian radio show, the Being Bobby Brown star claimed: "Come on, if anyone is threatened by al-Qaeda they'd take it seriously. "I figure if Bin Laden wants me, and everybody is looking for him, it won't happen. But if he wants to try and find me for something so stupid, then he can if he wants. I have to leave it in the hands of a higher power."

"Seduction is thus a central, indeed in certain respects, the central idea, in political life.

It signifies a course of action deliberately designed by one or more interested

agents to undermine and replace some established loyalty."
