New Bigger Beter HDs for portable electronic devices.

I bought a Creative Zen Touch MP3 player in 2005 with a 40gig HDD in it. I have been very happy with it and it is now 2.5 years old. I have looked at the on the market to be able to replace the HDD when it crashes. This might be a good replacement for it. An 80 or 160gig drive would be incredible with at or about the same power consumption as the 40gig!! Wow! It might be worth checking into. I like the interface and reliability of the player and the weight is not all that ad either, it is a bit big but size is no that big of an issue when you have a big collection to put on it.

Toshiba's storage device division aims to dramatically increase the hard disk storage capacity of MP3 players with the introduction of an 1.8-inch hard disk drive (HDD) with a 160Gbyte capacity.

The 160Gbyte dual platter MK1626GCB and a second 80Gbyte single platter HDD is being aimed specifically at small form factor consumer electronics devices such as MP3 players and video cameras. Both drives incorporate the CE-ATA interface.

"Consumption of mobile digital media is at an all time high and in turn is driving consumers towards high capacity mobile devices," said Martin Larsson, general manager, Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division.

"With our two new hard disk drives, we are offering consumer electronics designers the perfect medium to develop high performance products that offer the optimum combination of low power consumption and substantial storage in highly portable form factors," said Larsson.

Alongside the increase in capacity, both hard disk drives operate at a relatively slower speed of 3,600rpm which is intended to improve power consumption compared with conventional HDDs.

I TB Drive...

Remember when a 2 GIG drive was BIG?

Read This!!!

Struggling for to store all those photos, videos and music files? Philips might have the solution, with the launch of the SPD5130 external hard drive, packing in one terabyte of storage.
The new drive features an ultra-fast eSATA interface that is six times quicker than USB 2.0 and a small footprint, due to it beings a single-disk unit, as opposed to the double-drive devices usually seen with this capacity. There's also a 32MB buffer for reliable transfer, an extra thick shell for quietness and a suspension system that protects from knocks.

One terabyte, if you're not sure, should store around one million photos, 250,000 songs or six weeks of uncompressed video. It will be available to buy in Europe and the US in May, priced at the equivalent of 449 Euros.

What is your opinion?
