Day and Night Shots

I took most of the pics during the day and night off the Robert E. Lee bridge over Tredegar street. It gave me a good vantage point to shoot Downtown Richmond from the West Side. I hope that everyone enjoys the pics. Shots 1 - 21 were taken here as well as 36 - 48 were shot here as well. The Night shots of the city were made from those sets.

Some of the Day shots were taken on the East Side of the city in the Church Hill region and i took a great percentage of them from Jefferson Park. Shots 20 - 34 were taken here and also the Rich Pan 2 & 3 were made from those shots.

You can go and see all the pics at this link: Pic Page

Panaroma Shots of Richmond...

I took over 40 shots to make the Panorama pics. I used a program called Panaroma Maker 3.0 It takes the guess work out of making photos like these. In the past, I have not had much luck with the program. Last night however, I think that I found the technique. In my photo series, I left enough of an overlap between the photos to allow the program to integrate the photos seamlessly with no odd angles between the buildings.

I took the pictures with my Sony Cybershot 5.1 M/P with a 12x Optical Zoom and a 5x Digital Zoom using a 512 Sony Mem Pro card. I went around to different sides of the city to get the shots. I will post most of them on my PicPage this week.

Richmond Skyline...

I hope to be able over the next few days to go and take a few photos of the skyline of Richmond. I found a good spot the other day while I was on my way home from shift. There is a big overpass I95 North that is part of the Chippingham/895 interchange that has enough height to give me a clear shot of I95 North looking at downtown Richmond. I will have to act like my truck is broken down for a few minutes to get this shot(s)!

These are a few shots that I found on the web.

I hope to be able to get several from around the city that will look like these. I think that from the bridge, I will be able to get a better one than the last pic as I will get it from above the streets and from a distance of about 2-3 miles, thus, encompassing all of downtown and part of I95.

The first pic was taken from around the south side of the James River close to 14th street. I should be able to get several shots that are like that one as well. We shall see...

I am versy excited about this series of pictures. I hope to have this all done by Monday night!

Comic Book Stores...

Let em preface this by saying, I know, Comics at 35???

I went into a store several day ago with my friend Mark. He was told "DO No Bend The Pages." IT was called Richomndcomicx. They seamed to have a very good selection and they were close to our homes. I saw several titles that i wanted to purchase, just did not have the money at that time.

I went back today to look at a few titles and get what i saw the last time. I was in there for a few minuets and the owner came over and told me not to read the books!! I said that i was not reading the books and just looking at stuff that i have not kept up on over the years and that i was going to purchase a few in a moment. I stormed out of the store!!

I was SOOOO PISSED that we went back in to the store and told him that i would NEVER come back to his crappy store and that i would find a new one to use.

How can you not look at a book to see if you want to buy it? That is like going to the Library and being told you cant read the books in the building!!

What a grouchy OLD FART!!!

Pics of the James river and stuff...

I took these last summer and I would like to get a very cool night shot of Richmond Downtown at night. These pics are of the "foot bridge" that goes across the James. The bridge goes to Belle Isle.

Under the bridge, The James has class 4 & 5 rapids!! What a crazy place to go and try rapids. I would like to do that this summer. SO here are a few pics from that location. The area is known as the “best urban whitewater” in the US. No other city in the US has class IV rapids within its city limits. I would love to do this during the summer! My friend, Mark has also told me that he is interested in doing this as well.

There are some really neat things to do in downtown Richmond.
The Canal Walk
Browns Island
The Canal Walk goes about 1.5 miles threw the city with historic points of interest to read about. Browns Island has many concerts and festivals during the summer months.

The train track goes right over the river in a few places. Here is a neat pic.
Under that track, kids go swimming during the summer and also swing off that track. I might go swimming there this summer with my daughter and wife...

There are also some great biking parks along the James River. We have done part of the Buttermilk Trail, but my bike got a flat tire. It is some very difficult ridding in that park. We hope to go back soon. I think that we are very fortunate in that we have all of there activities in our city!!

Well more later...
