Art Bell Retires...again (sigh)!

from wiki:

Art Bell announced his retirement from weekend hosting on July 1, 2007. Art stated that the reason for this latest retirement is his desire to spend time with his wife and new daughter born in May, 2007. Art Bell stated he will host occasional shows in the future but will no longer host regularly on weekends. Art also said that unlike his other "retirements", this one will stand.

I don't know how many of you have ever listened to Coast to Coast AM. To me, and all of us freaks who find themselves up late at night and want to pass the time listening to stories of bigfoot, Area 51 and shadow people, it's the best. The weekend is when it really shines for me though - I just like listening to Art.

Yeah, I'm depressed.

What is your opinion?

He wants to spend his time with his family? He's only on the air two nights a week--the baby is probably asleep during his time slot. Nope. I don't buy it. Something else is going on. I hope he's not ill. Or, it could be a case of "Marry in hastes, repent in leisure."

I agree. He was knocking himself out
to do his show from Manila. Now he lets it all go? Maybe the wife wants to go back home? I know Art loves
doing his show. Babies don't do any thing at this age. Could be stress
    is getting to him.

Another agreement here. Asia is only 5 weeks old and Art is on the air only 2 days per week, late at night when Asia is sleeping. It's not like she's up crying because daddy isn't there. Airyn shouldn't be too upset, since Art is the current breadwinner in the family. Something has to be going on. Maybe Art has something else in the works. Something wonderful. George Noory is good, but Art Bell is the best. He will be missed.

  4. I could not agree more! You don't "retire" from a 10 hour gig...you quit, which is exactly what he did! Not even a 2 week notice! I actually cried. George can't touch him and I still don't really like him let alone love him the way I love Art!. Anyway, one thing is for sure, something is awry, and we never what it was.

I was out of hearing range of the radio when I thought I heard Art say something about Mexico. Is he moving there? This is all very strange.

I didn't hear the bit about Mexico, but I'll listen to the show again on Streamlink and let you know. I wouldn't doubt it's just that the poor girl (Airyn) is feeling like a fish out of water. Moving from the lush Phillipines to a relatively isolated rural area that resembles the moon, new baby, and as she's only about 22 I think, she probably needs her Mom. I know I would have in the same circumstances. Art was used to Ramona who was completely independent by the time Art met her, so I reckon he's got some adjusting to do to. My bet is they're going back to the Phillipines.

I will miss Art, but Ian Punnet is a much better interviewer. His questions are astute and he lets the guest speak without interrupting him. George Noori is a jerk who asks dumb questions, has a bad hair dye and is a nieve bozo

the worst choice Art Bell ever made was to choose George Noori as his successor. People listen because the guests are good, but Noori is a terrible interviewer who just doesn't get it.

Art is my favorite as well. I hope he changes his mind again and comes back. It could happen because Art loves radio so much. I didn't know until tonight, July 22nd, 3 weeks after the fact. What a bummer!
