New York gig marks end of the road for The Police

Truly the end of an era. I loved The Police back in the day and also Sting and saw him in concert several times in Houston. They did amazing things in the music industry and many bands copied their styles and sounds.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - British rock trio
The Police played their final concert together on Thursday and were
joined by the real police -- the New York City police band.

Singer and bassist Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy
Summers reunited for a world tour last May and have since played 150
concerts for 3.7 million people, Sting told the crowd between songs at
Madison Square Garden.

"The real triumph of this tour is that we
haven't strangled each other," he said, adding: "That's not to say it
hasn't crossed my mind, or Stewart's, or Andy's."

There were
touches of the surreal in the final gig by the band that made its name
in the late 1970s and 1980s with such hits as "Walking on the Moon" and
"Every Breath You Take."

Sting took an unusual break after the
main set and before the first encore -- lying back in a barber's chair
backstage as two blond women shaved the salt-and-pepper beard that he
had been sporting, the most obvious sign of the passing years.

The beard had come in for some harsh criticism from fashion mavens in
recent days, though the former teacher was quoted by media this week as
saying, "The ladies love it."

His make-over was beamed to a
giant screen above the stage as fans cheered and chanted for more
music. He bounced back on stage fresh-faced and looking as lithe as
ever without his shirt to deliver crowd-pleasers "Roxanne" and "So
Lonely."

The band opened with the Cream song "Sunshine of Your
Love" and were then joined by around 20 drummers and musicians of the
police band for "Message in a Bottle."

They may be more used to
playing in a marching band, but the burly uniformed police officers
sang along and banged their drums with gusto as Sting strutted his
stuff in a police cap.

Later in the set, three young women who
looked like fans popped up on stage, joking around, dancing and taking
snapshots as the band played "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic."

"These are my daughters," Sting explained.

The band played all of its big hits, as well as a few cover songs,
ending the encore with "Every Breath You Take." The band came back for
a brief second encore before finally calling it a day with the song
"Next to You."

The concert marked the end of a tour that has grossed more than $350 million and was the biggest selling tour of 2007.

The Police fused punk with reggae grooves and intricate arrangements to
gain global popularity before splitting in 1984. Sting went on to a
hugely successful solo career, while Copeland and Summers have also
stayed in the business, recording and scoring music for the movie
industry.

Christmas in Mu

The idea of Mu first appeared in the works of the antiquarian Augustus Le Plongeon (1825–1908), a 19th century traveler and writer who conducted his own investigations of the Maya ruins in Yucatán. He announced that he had translated the ancient Mayan writings, which supposedly showed that the Maya of Yucatán were older than the later civilizations of Atlantis and Egypt, and additionally told the story of an even older continent of Mu, which had foundered in a similar fashion to Atlantis, with the survivors founding the Maya civilization.

Le Plongeon actually got the name "Mu" from a mistranslation of what was then called the Troano Codex in 1864, using the de Landa alphabet. Mu was taken to mean Atlantis, which is what Le Plongeon thought; he also thought that Queen Moo was in Central America 30,000 years ago and founded civilizations in Atlantis and Egypt.

Twin Musical Tesla Coils playing Music...

This is WAY COOL. Have yourself a listen!!!

Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils playing Mario Bros theme song at the 2007 Lightning on the Lawn Teslathon sponsored by DC Cox (Resonance Research Corp) in Baraboo WI. The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software.

Music Memories...

Isn’t it funny how certain songs can tie you to a time period or person? The other day I was driving down the road listening to a band called Revenge. The song was called "State Of Shock" and it was a new version released on an album called "One True Passion V2.0" I have the original version called "One True Passion" and the next album called "Gun World Porn" that the song came from. Any way, I am rambling with back information.

So, anyway, I was driving down the road and was listening to the song and it reminded me of when I lived in Nacogdoches Texas in Wind Hill apartments. I had a friend, Jason Rhame, and he loved that song and we would play the hell out of it all the time. He moved away as did I and we kept in touch for several years and then we lost touch. I moved around a little and so did he. Well, I decided to try to find him and I tried to get his parents number in Nacogdoches and called them, no answer, so I went to www.zabasearch.com and did a search for his name and I found it in Houston.

There were several of the name. I called a few and left messages to call me and low and behold I received a call last week from him!! It was good to hear from an old friend from long ago and to catch up on recent times. We talk about once a week and are going to keep up with each other. It is just funny how music can spark memories of events and time…

Some music I am listening to...

~Turn off the light, take a deep breath, and relax, relax~

I am sure that many of you remember the "Band" called Enigma. Well, his name is Michael Cretu and he is from Bucharest, which is the Capital of Romania, Europe. HE broke into the scene around 1990 with his first album with big success!! It was called MCMXC a.D.

Many people got really burned out on this music and tracks. It is my opinion that you should check the music out again as it is now over 17 years old. It might sound dated, but it was and still is very well recorded and produced.

The massive hit from that album was called "Sadness" clocking in at over 12 minuets with 3 parts to it. I remember that track when i was in college. I purchased it at Record Rack in Houston Texas on one of my many trips there.

The musical style was mystical at that time with a new age feel to it. This album has always been one of my favorites. IT was along the same time that Peter Gabriel scored Passion - The Last Temptation Of Christ. Up until that time, there was a very big underground scene of that style of music by the likes of Eno, Fripp, Mike Oldfield, and Vangellis and Jean Michel Jarre, just to name a few. None of those artist had any big commercial success statewide at least. Enigma broke that genera of music to the popular masses and it was a very large hit in The States followed by Mea Culpa, another big radio/club success.

He also produced a band called Sandra. She had a few club hits in the mid-late 1980s. I remember them going to clubs when i was 16 years old! The eventually got married. Her music was very thickly layered using old Fairlight and Roland analogue synthesizers with sultry vocals and great beats. She even, later, gave vocals for the Enigma projects.

All in all, i think that Micheal Cretu/Enigma have remained a constant force in the music industry. His music might be the same on all the albums, but it is very masterfully crafted with rick textures and incredible lush soundscapes. His music takes you on a journey instead of the same ole crap that most bands do, with 3-4 good tracks and the rest as filler. All the music might not be to your taste, but it had a fluid motion and a natural progression with a common element through out his music. you can listen to his stuff and say, that is Enigma, not some other artist.

He also helped open this style of music to other artist that spawned several offshoots. One being Trance, Progressive Trance and several others. I think that we all owe him a big hand for doing what he did in the music industry and for what he still does.

Just my 2 or 3 cents worth...

Off time...

Well, this weekend is some much needed downtime. I slept in until 11:15 this morning and got out of bed. I am listening to some good "psytrance" from a band called Symphonix. This music would have sounded good at a club in Beaumont Texas called "The Palladium" They had a killer soundsystem with a very awesome light show!!

It is very cold here today and it is not going to get out of the 30s. But tomorrow it will be like 50, BIG temperature change tomorrow. but then back cold by next week.
Thankx to www.NBC12.com for the weather forecast. Their site is very good if you want to know about our local news.

You know when you need to get tires, but you don't have the time? For one thing, my tires for my Toyota Tacoma are a very strange size: P256/65R17 and most places do not carry that size on hand.

Well, We ordered tires online from Wal*Mart and i am still waiting for them. IT is the 26th of January and my sticker goes out on February 1. I hope that the tires come in soon so i can get them and then get my car inspected. I have over 44,000 miles on my old set. I think that i have gotten the good out of them!

Well, more later. i think that i will post about and make a few pics of my different types of house plants that i have.

RIAA...Part The second

I welcome Comments to my BLOG.

This battle has been going on with the RIAA for over 7 years. The music industry missed the boat on this issue long ago. Way back when Napster first came on the Internet scene, they could have put an end to the file/music swapping by making pay sites back then. They DID NOT.
I remember back in the late 1990s, Camelot Music was going to put in their stores Cd burners that would allow you to make a personal CD to purchase. That would have been a great idea! You could have gone i and made a comp of your favorite artists for around $20. I mean, let’s face it, Most people purchase an album for 3-4 GOOD songs, the rest of the music is just filler unless you are like me and i am a completists and i like to get *everything* from the artist i like even if it is bad.
The P2P Internet trend is now unstoppable. It would take a complete shutdown of the Internet to stop the music/file swapping from happening and that will not happen. Too many people and businesses depend on the Internet for their livelihood. IF the RIAA shuts down a site, it will pop back up in another country. Period Point Blank!! I have seen it happen.

IF the Artist would have just agreed to let Napster sell their music for say $20 a month, they would have all been RICH! But they got greedy and now they suffer the outcome.

1. Better Technology
2. Declining Compact Disc sales
3. Declining Movie Sales(Not Good Products)

The RIAA can sue the entire world and it will not stop. Most people that download the tracks use them for personal use and do not *Sell* them to make a profit. In fact, a lot of people use downloading to sample the music beforehand to see if they like it.

IF you are in the middle of this RIAA/Music Downloading mess, a good place to go and join is the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation)

Well, enough of this mess...
Back to life.
