George Washington Masonic Memorial...

I took these in Alexandria Virginia at the George Washington Masonic Memorial. It is a beautiful structure that towers more than 300 feet into the sky. You can take a tour of the building that has 9 floors. The elevators are tilted in a 7.5 degree angle and start out about 50 feet apart and on the 9th floor are no more than 10 feet between them. You do not notice the angle as you go up. We did not get to see all floors of the building. On the 9th, there is an observation deck that goes around the top; you get a breathtaking view of the surrounding city and Potomac River.

Over the next week, i will post some photos of some of the interior that we were able to tour.

Gravestones in 16:9 Aspect.

Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington Virginia: Saturday May 10, 2008

I took this photo and i wanted to see what it looks like in color and B/W. I use the B/W for my desktop. I shot it in an 16:9 HD Aspect Ratio so you can get the total effect of the sky and land. even though they are not exactly the same position i hope that you get the essence of the photograph. The color photo was shot in "Vivid Mode" for high contrast between the gravestone and the land & Sky. I think that it worked well.

Arlington National Cemetery

This is a series of photographs i took in color and Black and White. This is an incredible large place to walk around it and a person could not see it all in a day. It has over 20 burials a day that happen there. If you ever get a chance to go there, I strongly recommend it. The feelings that it makes you have are strong.

Back Stairwell...

Back Stairwell..., originally uploaded by RMStringer.

I took this at the National Museum of Natural History. It is part of the Smithsonian Institute that is located in Washington DC. I love the colors that it was painted. The Totem Poll is located in the center and it is over 35 feet tall. I thought that it was a hard photo to take because of the height of the structure and the lighting located around the walls.

Exposure: 0.4 sec (2/5)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 400

Light Trails 2

Light Trails 2, originally uploaded by RMStringer.

We were at DC last night and we saw several of the memorials. I was on my way back to the car and we came upon the cross walk. It was a really good area for doing this type of photography with the surrounding lighting and both directions of traffic. I used "Vivid Mode" for this shot.

Exposure: 20 sec (20)
Aperture: f/14
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 400

Light Trails 1

Light Trails 1, originally uploaded by RMStringer.

This was the first of the "Traffic Trails" set that i used to post. I used a long exposure time and it hight F/Stop. I love the tail lights that were going past where i was set up to shoot the photo. The lighting across the street as well as the traffic lights gives it an almost ethereal feel to the photograph. This series was taken between the FDR and the Korean Memorials.

Exposure: 20 sec (20)
Aperture: f/14
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 400

The Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial, originally uploaded by RMStringer.

I shot this in Black and White as well as 16:9 High Definition Aspect Ratio. It was not a long exposure. I did use low F/Stop. I think that the B/W shows off the contrast in the marble that it was built with. I used a flash for this photo.

Exposure: 0.1 sec (1/10)
Aperture: f/5
Focal Length: 30 mm
ISO Speed: 400

Washington DC Photos...

I took these yesterday while we were walking in Arlington Cemetery. The photos are of the JFK grave site. JFK, Jacqueline Kennedy, and two children are buried at the memorial. I have more photos to fallow this week.

Same Rose...

Here are three photos of the same rose. This is the same rose that i took a Black and White of on 5-6-2008. Here it is in color and in B/W more open than it was on that day. I Think that it is a really neat idea for this situation. Two days make a lot of difference in the flower kingdom!

Blue and Red...

I took these at the St Louis Science Center. This was the elevator shaft that was 4 stories high. It had several colors that changed to give it this effect. I thought that i was really cool. I shot this with a 1600 ISO speed so there is a little graininess to it.

Light Purple Rose...

I used a Black Flash mode with Apature Priority to take this photo. I turned out very clear and if you look, you will see a rain drop on one of the petals. I also used the Cloudy weather setting. The flash did not wash out the flower like happens a lot when you do a macro.

Exposure: 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 60 mm
ISO Speed: 400

Big Dandelion...

I took this series on 5.5.2008 in the afternoon. If i had a better lens, i could get in tighter with better detail of the bloom. It all takes money to do this.

Rose in B&W

Rose in B&W, originally uploaded by RMStringer.

I thought that this was the best rose B&W shot for today. You can see the texture of the rose on the petals with everything else out of focus.

Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 45 mm
ISO Speed: 400

Rose 3 [Set 2]

Rose 3 [Set 2], originally uploaded by RMStringer.

New Rose Set Taken today.

I got the idea for this from a photo from a group that i belong to. I got down very low to shoot the sun going down behind the rose. I like the effect that it made.

Exposure: 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 55 mm
ISO Speed: 200

Final Destination Cheer Competition...

We went to Final Destination yesterday at VA Beach. It was built up by most of the competitions that we have attended. There were over 500 teams in the competition. It was held at the VA Beach Convention Center. It is a really neat structure and very modern looking. In my opinion, it was ill-suited for this competition. We have been to several of the contests around the country and they have always had a good stage set-up for the contest. The arena did not have a stage that was high off the ground and the lighting in the arena was very bad. The seating was low and limited and priority seating was to far away for most parents to get good pictures of their children.

I for one, was not impressed with the set-up of the competition at all and i get that was the tone from other people that i spoke to as well. Here is a picture of the Convention Center:

Our team did well and we placed 2nd in our division! We were very happy with these results. It was a long day and i took many pictures that i will be posting soon

Have a good day!

Mountain Biking Today!!

I went with Jeff today to Powhite Park for a nice ride today. We meat at 2.0pm and started on the trails. It was a windy day at 85 degrees and sunny! We had a good ride and rode 4.5 miles, not really hardcore today just getting in a good cardio work-out! Powhite is really hilly, not many lat trails and they are in really good shape given all the rain that we had in the last 9 weeks. Some of the obstacles have been taken out due to they want the trails to be more hiker friendly because of the condos that are being built next to the park. In my opinion, they could have cut a trail to the side of the obstacle and let it in. We will see what happens to the park after all the people move in.

Laters...
